Lawrence S. Mana

Judge Lawrence S. Mana (Retired) Passed away at age 90 on September 2, 2007. Beloved husband of 57 years to Mary Ann Mana. Preceded in death by his son Lawrence Stephen Jr. Dear brother of the late Stephen L. Mana and his wife, Rose; and loving uncle of Maria, Anthony (Celia) and David (Maura) Mana. Survived by numerous family and friends here in San Francisco and Hanford, CA. Lawrence was born in San Francisco. He was a graduate of Lowell High School and a Magna Cum Laude graduate of St. Mary's College. He received his law degree from the University of California, Boalt Hall School of Law. From law school Lawrence went to work with the law firm of Brobeck, Phleger and Harrison. He then worked in the City Attorney's office of San Francisco and in 1956 was appointed Chief Deputy Attorney of the City and County of San Francisco. In 1962, he was appointed Judge of the Municipal Court of San Francisco; then, in 1969, was appointed Judge of the Superior Court of San Francisco where he served until his retirement from the bench in 1984. Lawrence was active in many organizations including the Salesian Boys' Club, Lawyers Club of San Francisco, the American Bar Association, the American Judges Association, the American Legion-Salesian Post and Piemontesi nel Mondo. For his community and civic work, Lawrence was the recipient of the Knight of the Order of Merit from the Republic of Italy, the Italian Cultural Medal from the Republic of Italy, the Boys' Club of America Medallion and the Salesian Old Timers "Father Trinchieri Memorial Medal." Family and friends are invited to attend a Visitation on Thursday from 4-8pm with a Vigil Service at 7pm at Halsted N. Gray-Carew & English, 1123 Sutter St., SF. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, 10am at SS Peter and Paul Church, 666 Filbert St., SF, followed by entombment at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Lawrence's memory to the Salesian Boys' and Girls' Club, 680 Filbert St., San Francisco, CA 94133. HALSTED N.
