Dolores Mitchell Obituary

Dolores Ellen Mitchell Died on September 20, 2010 at the age of 94 in Greenbrae, CA. Born at home to William J. and Ellen F. Waters on November 26, 1915 in San Francisco. She had six brothers and sisters, all of whom predeceased her: Ed (Noakes), Jim (Noakes), Eileen (Harvey), Tom, Rita (Encoyand) and Bill. Dolores attended St. Peter's Elementary and High Schools and was a loyal alumna of these schools. She then attended San Francisco State, where she was an active member of the Sienna Club. After obtaining a teaching credential, she went on to teach for the San Francisco Unified School District until retiring at the age of 65. In May 1939 she married John (Jack) T. Mitchell and enjoyed a happy 56 years of marriage before his death in 1995. They had four children, John T. Mitchell, S.J., Michael J. (Susan) Mitchell, William J. (Candy) Mitchell and Noelle D. (Robert) Nelson; and were blessed with six grandchildren, Katie, Sheehan, Bernie (Nelson), Jeff, Mikey and Mitch (Nelson). Dolores and Jack's main focus in life was always family, which included their many nieces and nephews. Dolores actively worked on the St. Philip's School P.T.A. As president of the P.T.A. she directed the annual festival, which this year is taking place on the day of her funeral. It is sure to be a success. She also was a long-time president of the San Francisco Jesuit Mothers and much enjoyed working with these ladies for the Jesuit Fathers and Brothers.
