What many might not know about Shirley is that she had an astonishing memory and a fondness and true dedication for the SFPD that transcended her leaving the dept (even as John remained). I appreciate all that Shirley shared in our correspondence and in our visits. I am proud to have been her friend and grateful that she shared her life experiences with me. Rest in peace!

How will I remember Aunt Shirley? She was strong, caring, and loving. She had a big heart. I will always remember the moments in our childhood when we would spend family times together. Or, my sisters and I riding in the car with our parents (Jerry & Connie) through the city as a family, and seeing the young Barisone family riding bikes through Golden Gate Park. Aunt Shirley and Uncle John were the epitome of what family meant when it came to knowing what was important to keep a family together, and they were a wonderful example to follow. I miss them both, but know they are smiling down on the fruits of their labor, and the legacy they have both left behind. Thanks for the memories. I love you. RIP. ~Gail (Schroff)Barber~

Barisone family....You already know how special Shirley was to you, she was truly an inspiration to all at Camp Mather.... Even with her nagging health issues she tirelessly walked the cabin to the lake road day in and day out....She also peppered me when I made a "pedro" mistake as her partner....man I'm going to miss her.....she was one of the great ones!

Calm quiet persistent force of nature.
Instead of raising her hand and speaking her mind to the group she would whisper into my ear: I don't understand why; it is so simple; let's just do this; why can't we do this...
The way she said it or just because she was Shirley it always seemed reasonalable and right. Everyone who knew her will miss her deeply; I have learned a lot from Shirley and I will remember her spirit of caring, giving, doing, appreciating, and laughing.
If Camp Mather could say it for itself, it would say: Thank You Shirley.
Love and hugs to the Barisone Family

"Grandma Shirley," as she was known to many of us not on her family tree, was always eager to help us, to give us advice, and to regale us with her stories. Her grandchildren and children have been kind to share Grandma Shirley with the world. Our last goodbye to Shirley came with the latest send off of her grandson, Eamon, on his next round of adventures, and now Shirley is off for her next set of adventures, in the Great Beyond. Our condolences go out to John, Susan, Eamon, Meaghan and Amelia and all who knew her as family.

Requiescat in pace, Shirley. God be with you.

What a fabulous, active, intuitive spirit! We count ourselves fortunate to have shared her family, her table, and a Montana trip with her. We were the recipients of her special brand of kindness and support when our children were small. Her gifts live on in our dear friend John and all her family. She was a blessing and I know she'll continue to pray for us all. Wishing you peace in the knowledge of a life truly well-lived.

Shirley, John and the family were great friends to my family, the Dan Dempsey family. She was always supportive of Camp Mather, kept in touch with my mom and sister throughout the years and was particularly supportive during my sister Marsha's recent illness. She will alwayys be remembered as a great person, a great friend to Camp Mather and a loving mother and friend. My deepest sympathy to the Barisone family.
