Floyd Henry White Jr. Known to family and friends as "Pooch," passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on Tuesday, February 5, 2013.|
Floyd was born November 2, 1932 in San Rafael to the late Dr. Floyd Henry White Sr. and Louise Peterson White.
He attended Tamalpais High School in San Rafael where he received a basketball scholarship to attend the University of California at Berkeley and graduated in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree.
Floyd was a drafted Veteran of the United States Army and served his country with pride and honor. He remained a dedicated supporter of the military his entire life. For 30 years he worked for Fireman's Fund Insurance Company in which he retired as the Senior Vice President of Fidelity and Surety in Novato. He was also appointed a Kentucky Colonel in 1975.
Floyd is survived by his loving wife, Lina B. White, of 33 years, brother William H. White, sister Grace Beverly Murray, son's Jonathan M. White and Barry D. Stevens, daughter Caren E. White Gately, grandchildren Julian, Justin, Kathlina, Brandei, and Kaya, He was preceded in death by his first wife, Carolyn F. White.
In retirement, he developed a love for boating shared with his "First Mate" Lina, as members of the Marin Yacht Club in San Rafael (Commodore 1994), and the St. Francis Yacht Club in San Francisco.
Floyd had a love of traveling, particularly cruises and seeing the world.
Everyone enjoyed and commented on his sense of humor and joy for life. His quick wit often resulted in performing stand up comedy on que.
Floyd was an avid fan sports fan, with a true passion for the California Bears, San Francisco Giants and San Francisco 49ers.
A private service will be held Monday with a "Celebration of his Life" to be held at a later date.
