Pierre (Peio) Ourtiague

Pierre Ourtiague died suddenly at home on October 22, 2016. He was born Iholdy, France in the Basque Region on November 7, 1935. At the age of four the family moved to Lantabat where he was raised. Pierre is survived by his loving wife of fifty-three years, Denise Ourtiague, cherished children Christian Ourtiague (Áine), Daniel Ourtiague (Michelle), Evelyne Ourtiague-Young (Edgar) and Diane Arduain (Patrick), his loving grandchildren, Joelle, Nicole, Katrina, Ellande, Sabina and Tehexa, his brother Jean and sister Catherine.

Pierre was preceded in death by his beloved son Eric Ourtiague, parents Pierre and Marie and brothers Charles and Francois.

As a young man Pierre served in the French Army during the Algerian War, he later came to the United States as a sheepherder to Lancaster, CA. Soon after he settled in San Francisco and began his gardening career. Pierre loved his family, especially adored his grandchildren, he was hardworking and his passion in life was hunting and handball. He was a member of the Basque Cultural Center, Basque Club, La Ligue Henry IV, Les Chasseur and Ancien Combatant.

The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to all our family, friends and the doctors and nurses at St. Mary's Hospital. Services will be held at St. Gabriel's Church in San Francisco, 2559 40th Avenue, San Francisco on November 3rd, 2016. The rosary will begin at 6:30 pm followed by a Funeral Mass. Burial services will be held on November 4, 2016 at 10:00 am at Holy Cross Cemetery, Colma. Please make donations to the American Cancer Society in memory of Pierre Ourtiague.
