Andrew Dulaney Obituary

Andrew Gordon Dulaney

June 13, 1963 - April 30, 2015

Born and raised in San Francisco, Andrew was the younger son of Brunhilde (Olhauser) and William Dykes Dulaney. Brilliant at everything he thought and did, he read his first book when he was three years old.
At Grace Cathedral's School for Boys, he was a chorister for five years, and it was there he studied and mastered music theory. He could play anything on the piano in any key; everyone loved his playing. He was proficient in several other instruments as well.
Andrew graduated magna cum laude from San Francisco State University, earning a B.A. in political science, with minors in history and religious studies. From there, he attended Berkeley's Boalt Hall School of Law where he received his J.D., class of 1991. Before he graduated, he was already employed at the law firm of Robins, Kaplan, Miller & Cerisi, at their San Francisco office.
He had a passion for natural beauty, and often hiked and backpacked in out-of-the-way locations. One of his favorite places was Death Valley, where he loved the heat in all of its extremes, and the spectacular desert topography. He termed anything under 85 degrees as an "Arctic Blast".
He was an unflinching advocate for the poor, disadvantaged, abused, and otherwise marginalized. He did much pro bono work on behalf of displaced Tibetans, and was a member of the International Committee of Lawyers for Tibet (now, the Tibet Justice Center). He authored a book-length paper entitled, Resolving Claims of Self-determination: A Proposal for Integrating Principles of International Law with Specific Application to the Tibetan People, 1993, an abstract of which has been published.
He had an irreverent, verging on wicked, sense of humor. He disdained intellectual laziness, and hated social artificiality, with its dress codes and egalitarianism in all its forms.
He was predeceased by his father, William. He is survived by wife of 22-years, Rebecca Reimbold; his mother, Bruni; his brother, Richard Dulaney; sister-in-law, Christine (Korytnyk) Dulaney; his nephews, Daniel and Matthew Dulaney; his god-children, Gwyndolen and Colin Kloepping; and his life-long friend, Father Thomas Doyle. We will sorely miss him.

I never got to meet Andrew in person, but our online interactions were a blessing in my life; I really hope he knew that. Blessings to his wife and family and beloved friends, I'm sure his absence will be felt profoundly.
