Barbara Ann Fischer Obituary
Barbara Ann Fischer

Barbara went to be with her Lord and Savior on May 15, 2013 after a courageous one year battle with kidney cancer. She was born on June 16, 1933 in San Mateo, CA. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband of 55 years, Robert Fischer. She is survived by her brother David, her three children Robert, Diane and Tom, and her 5 grandchildren.

Barbara grew up in San Mateo, attended San Mateo High School, and went on to San Jose State University where she graduated with a B.A. degree in Business Administration. During college she was a member of the Delta Zeta Sorority. It was here that she formed friendships with many of her sorority sisters that would last a lifetime. It was also at San Jose State that she met and fell in love with Robert Fischer who would become her husband. Married shortly after college, the two settled down in San Carlos where they raised 3 children.

After raising her three children, she began her career as an early childhood educator. Working first as a preschool teacher and then becoming Director of the Crystal Springs Early Childhood Education Center, a position that she held for nearly 25 years. A passionate educator, she was still teaching full-time until only a few weeks before her death.

Barbara was also an accomplished author having published numerous short stories and articles for a variety of children's magazines. At the time of her death, she was actively working on her first book.

Barbara was a lifelong member of the United Church of Christ in San Carlos. She was actively involved in the Christian Education program, teaching Sunday school until just shortly before her illness worsened in February of this year.

Her gentle kindness touched all that knew her. She will be remembered for her passion for teaching children and her love of writing. She will be greatly missed by her brother, three children, daughter-in-law, son-in-law and grandchildren.

Services will be held this Saturday May 18, 2013 at 3:00pm at the Community United Church of Christ of San Carlos, 1336 Arroyo Avenue, San Carlos, California. Sign the guestbook at www.crippenflynn.com
