Charles Jackson Obituary

Charles Kenneth Jackson ("Jack") Jack died July 29, 2010. Born 1/19/23, he grew up in Turlock and Oakland, worked in the Richmond Shipyards, and was a radio operator in the Merchant Marines 1944-1950. He was a UC Berkeley grad; member of Delta Phi Epsilon, the Professional Foreign Service Fraternity (Epsilon Chapter, 1947); Amateur Radio operator, call sign W6KNO; member of ARRL, MARC, EBARC, SCRA and Cal Fire's VIP Program; founder of the Red Oak Victory Amateur Radio Club; KPFA radio volunteer, Berkeley Co-op board member; supporter and board member of PFLAG; SS Red Oak Victory restoration project volunteer. He worked for Stauffer Chemical Co, then was a Real Property appraiser for Sonoma County. He was married for 51 years to Margaret Claar ("Peggy") until her death in 2002; a 50 year Kensington resident; musician, humanitarian, conservationist, civil rights activist, environmentalist, biodiesel promoter, and tireless advocate for justice and tolerance. Mourned by his family: daughter, Martha, of Richmond; son, David, his wife Becky, of Santa Rosa, and their sons, Daniel and Brian; son, Peter, and his partner Eric Raptosh, of Venice Beach; son, Michael, and his wife Monique Lanoix, of Montreal; and many cousins, friends, and shipmates. A celebration of his life will be held on board the Red Oak Victory on Sunday, October 10, 2010 at 4pm. No flowers please. Donations welcome to SS Red Oak Victory c/o Richmond Museum of History, P.O. Dear Martha,

What a beautiful tribute to your dad and to your whole family. My prayers are with you. I have so many happy memories of my life with your parents on Highgate Road. I am truly blessed to have been welcomed by your dad during my early days in the Bay Area.
