David Bowers Obituary

David W. Bowers 3/15/49-1/19/11 Sound engineer extraordinaire, fine friend, unique human being. We will miss his love, humor, physical energy and vibrant life force. In 1971, after combat service with the Marine Corps in Vietnam, Dave began his career as a sound engineer in Santa Cruz. His attention to detail and dedication to the highest standards of his craft led to tours with the Doobie Brothers, Kenny Loggins and Toto, among others. Returning to the Bay area in 1984, he joined IATSE Local 134 and was hired by Promedia Ultrasound. His sensitive ear and impeccable work ethic led to gigs with Luciano Pavarotti, the Three Tenors, Andrea Bocelli, the Irish Tenors, the SF Opera and the SF Symphony. His last gig, before he succumbed to colon cancer, was the East Bay Symphony's November, 2010 concert with Carlos Santana and Narada Michael Walden. Dave is survived by his wife Carie May-Bowers, brother Jack Bowers and sister Dr. Genie Bowers. Please friend David W. Bowers on Facebook to share memories and learn about a celebration of his life.

David was a special person to me. I met him in the early 70's. There were no others like him. In the music biz, you get surrounded by lots of temptations. But i only knew David to be into health (his regular running) having a few good, select friends, his kind demeanor and of course his crazy sense of humor. I have thought of David many times throughout the years. His memory will always be with me. Until we see you again!

Dave, it was great touring with you over the past couple of years, you will be greatly missed. Your passion for excellence in trade and life is without a doubt what makes you, "you". I ended my touring career with you house right of my lighting board and I will never forget you and the great times that we had on the road. It was a honor to have met you.

Godspeed...

David, I miss you very much. We laughed together, we cursed out loud and you were one of my best teachers. Best part of the 4th of July was you and the fireworks. Much love

David lived with Ken and I when we were first married in the early 80s. He was one of the most hilarious, sweet, frustrating people ever. Although we lost touch over the years, my heart goes out to his wife and family, as I know what a treasure he was, and what a great loss you are enduring.

I find it truth telling when all sentiments held by those who knew, experienced, and were tortured by, David are all the same. This shows me (not that I need to be told!!) he was a solid honest person who revealed only the truth that he possesed. It is rare to come across an individual with such fortitude in life and we lost one a few days ago. You will be missed David.

Dear David, You made an impact in my life. I learned you could be of a rock and roll world and still have a healthy lifestyle. No one understood you back then when you were up at 6am to go for a run when everybody else was just getting to bed. :) We will all miss you; wonderful special man. Cynthia

David, you lived for music, it was your heart and soul. You thrived on making others laugh and you touched so many through your antics and misbehavior. You were always there for the ones who followed in your footsteps. Old friends were never old and it always touched you deeply to hold their friendship in your heart. Thank you for sharing your life with me. Bless and love, Carie
