David Khalil Habash

Passed away at home in South San Francisco on March 5, 2013 after an extended battle with cancer. David, 58, was instrumental in the development of North of Panhandle (NOPA). His business, Parkside Market (at Hayes and Lyon Streets), was a driving force in building this community into a vibrant neighborhood over the years.

David came to San Francisco in the mid-1970s from Palestine and took over ownership of Parkside Market in 1981. He served as president of St. Nicholas Antiochian Orthodox Church for over ten years and created the North Panhandle Neighborhood Association (NOPNA) yearly block party in 2000. He was dearly loved by scores of family, friends and customers.

He is survived by his wife Ajia, sons Khalil and Amir, daughter Monica, aunts Estear Habash and Minerva Amireh, brothers John, Tony and Sam, sisters Rema Qare, Nadia Wehab and Samia Rafidi as well as his first wife Olivia Kandalaft.

David was laid to rest with his parents, Khalil and Malakeh Habash, at Greek Orthodox Memorial Park in Colma. Condolences may be sent to 1600 Hayes St., San Francisco, CA 94117.
