David Singer Obituary

David Singer Resident of San Carlos Born in New Rochelle, NY on July 21, 1954 to the late Bernard and Sylvia Singer, David passed away peacefully in San Mateo, CA on October 2, 2010 at the age of 56. David attended Blackford High School. His joy and success in life came with his radio show under the pseudonym of Jack Diamond featuring hard to find, unusual, and period musical recordings. His manner of presentation was more then unique. His was a dark, low and vibrant voice punctuating the music with inside information about the artist and the relevance of the sound itself. David is survived by his brothers Martin Singer and Robert Singer, as well as several nieces and nephews. Family and friends are invited to attend a Graveside Service on Wednesday, October 13, 2010 at 11:00 am at Oak Hill Memorial Park, 300 Curtner Avenue, San Jose. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in David's name to Foothill-DeAnza Foundation for the use of KFJC Radio Station at Foothill College.

I recall meeting David back in the early 80's at Slim's. Seems my friends and I were always at venues and seeing this Buddy Hollyesque young man at many shows. A gentleman, a true music lover he was always up for good live music. One fond memory is him dancing with my mom at the Catalyst in Santa Cruz as the Texas Tornadoes played on. Truly sorry that I lost touch with him a few years back.

Back in the early 80's I used to hang out at Cafe Barrone in Menlo Park, next to Kepler's Books. I would see this interesting-looking fellow sitting there, with black-rimmed glasses. A couple of years later I was up at KFJC getting a station tour from Big Mike Destiny and there this guy was. It was Jack Diamond, and I had been listening to his show for awhile by then. I used to tape every show. Anyway, he was friendly and gracious, and I'm glad to have met him that day. Didn't know him personally, but am certainly glad I got to know his show. I learned alot of new music from him. Esquivel!!! Perhaps he's hanging out in that Space Age Bachelor Pad in the sky.
Rest in Peace, Jack. Thanks for everything.......

David was also known as Jack Diamond. "Jack Diamond is a radio show host in Los Altos Hills at station KFJC 89.7 FM and has been collecting albums and tapes for years. His site presents album covers, interviews, discography and links to other sites the Webmaster considers "cool." This site is and easy to work your way around and the information is unique and insightful, due to the Webmaster's extensive background in collecting. Record collecting is no mere hobby, no leisurely innocuous diversion. Record collecting is a feverish passion, bordering on dementia, driving those under its influence to irrational, compulsive and sometimes fanatical extremes." http://underground-online.troybrophy.com/iu/webguide/tunes/tune_jdhog.htm

David Jack Diamond Singer was the Esquivel of style during our KFJC Wednesday evening staff meetings. His passion for music, his sense of humor, and his observations of this very weird world will be missed.

David was kind and thoughtful, organized and fastidious, and graceful until the end. I am lucky to have him as a friend and he is leaving us way too young.

Jack Diamond helped his listeners discover a world of musical magic they never would have found otherwise. Although I never met him, David was my inspiration. He taught many of us what good radio was, and he will be deeply missed.

Style, attitude, personality--Jack Diamond, on the air and in person, had presence.
