David Toschi Obituary

David Toschi

David Toschi passed away peacefully at home on January 6th, at the age of 86, with his beloved wife, Carol, by his side. Dear father of Linda Toschi-Chambers (Craig), Karen Leight, and Susan Meza (who preceded him in death). Adored grandfather of Sarah Leight and Emma Leight.
Dave was a native San Franciscan and proud Italian American. After graduating from Galileo High School, he served in the US Army, 24th Infantry Division, during the Korean War. Upon his Honorable Discharge, he joined the ranks of the San Francisco Police Department, where he served for 32 years, retiring as a Full Inspector. After his retirement, he continued working in the security business; including 10 years at the Pan Pacific Hotel as Director of Security and several years as Vice President of North Star Security.
He loved books, music, and could sing with the best of them. His greatest pleasure was his loving family who will miss his keen sense of humor, his gentle guidance and his unconditional love.
Our family is very grateful for his caregiver, Nancy Pajarillo, who lovingly cared for him the last two years.
Respecting David's wishes, private family services were held at Duggans Serra in Daly City.

I sincerely apologize that I have failed any attempt at writing here until present.
I´ve never had the pleasure of meeting Dave, only met his wife Carol when I visited his SF residence to give her a letter for him.
I investigated the Zodiac case and my letter concerned my interview of Leigh Allen at his home back in the late 80´s.
I´m Craig in Robert Graysmith´s Zodiac Unmasked.
I´d love to have spoken to Dave to discuss the things I was able to learn but I suppose he´d had enough of the case.
I´ll say this much.. Dave was on the right trail.
I salute him for his dedication in trying to solve these homicides.
My condolences to his daughters.

I was sorry to see this announcement on the passing of David Toschi. Thank you Mr. Toschi for serving our country in the US Army with the 24th Infantry Division, known as "Taro Division" or the "Victory Division", and for providing service with compassion and integrity as a Police Officer to the city and citizens of San Francisco. Every time I eat Animal Crackers or watch Bullitt, I'll remember you Mr. Toschi. Requiescat In Pace.

I went to high school with, and was good friends with his daughter, Karen. (Linda was a couple of years ahead of us). I visited the home many times and would chat with him whenever I was shopping at Home Yardage, where he worked security.
To Karen and family, my sincerest condolences. I am so sorry for your loss. May he rest in peace.

My condolences to the family of Dave Toschi. I remember him introducing himself to me when I was a new officer in the SFPD. I think it was the Italian heritage because he used to say we had to stick together. RIP,my friend

During the 1970's I worked at a fabric store in San Francisco called Home Yardage. While still an officer on the San Francisco police homicide detail, David did security at the store on the side. David was a really nice man and I always enjoyed talking with him about the goings on in San Francisco. I also happen to remember Linda who worked in the store. My condolences to her and the family.
