Deborah Carey Obituary

Deborah Leigh Carey Born May 22,1952 in San Francisco to Arlene and the late Ian Greer of Berkeley, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2010 in Tiburon, Marin County after a long illness. Deborah attended Skyline High School in Oakland, and attended the California College of the Arts, where she obtained Bachelor's and Master's degrees in Fine Arts. Deborah was a bright and diligent student, and a fine artist. After college, she opened a successful graphic design studio in San Francisco. In 1986 Deborah was diagnosed with chronic progressive Multiple Sclerosis, shortly before she met her husband-to-be, Gifford Carey. Their daughter Nicola was born in 1990, and they moved to Marin County shortly thereafter. Apart from two years in the San Juan Islands, she lived in Marin County for the rest of her life. Deborah loved to travel and visited Mexico, Canada, England and Scotland, France, Germany, Hong Kong, South Africa and Zimbabwe before becoming incapacitated. She was a wonderful, creative, quirky, opinionated, fun loving, loyal friend, wife and mother. In spite of her many challenges over the years she managed to find love, make a family, and live to see her daughter grow into a beautiful woman she was so proud of. She made a great success of living and creating, despite the challenges she faced, and never gave up hope. Her courage and inner strength were an inspiration to her family and friends who will miss her dearly.
