Edna Gourley Obituary

Edna Elizabeth Jane Gourley Was born October 26, 1921 in a tent in Mexia, Texas in the middle of the oilfield where her father was working. She was raised in Letha, OK, graduated from Seminole High School. She married L.C. Gourley January 25, 1940 in Oklahoma City. They lived much of their lives at the family home in Letha, OK and later had a farm in Wolf, OK where they raised cattle and goats. She traveled the U.S. following her husband's work. She moved to San Francisco a few years after the death of her husband, to live with her only child, Dan Gourley. She loved her family and put them first. She worked at school cafeterias both in Bowlegs, Oklahoma and San Francisco, California. She had many interests: she was a volunteer usher for the Opera and for the Architect's Yearly Open House, she loved to cook and spent many hours in the kitchen preparing food for her family and friends. She had an adventurous spirit and loved to travel, especially in her later life, to Hawaii. She never met a stranger and had many friends. She died the morning of November 30, 2010 at home with her son and her longtime caregiver, Oliva Verdan, at her side. Her family would like to thank Oliva and Oliva's sister Connie Zamora, a second caregiver for their years of loving assistance. She was preceded in death by three brothers, Andy, Prince, and Leroy, and is survived by her son, Dan Gourley, a retired teacher in San Francisco, brother Dan Reynolds and sister in law Lucille Reynolds of Seminole, Oklahoma and numerous nieces and nephews, three of whom, Gary Reynolds, Diana Sullivan, and Danette Reynolds, she took a major role in raising. She is already greatly missed. Services will be held Sunday December 5, 2010 at 1:00 pm at Sullivan's Funeral Home at 2254 Market Street, San Francisco.
