Edward Koester Obituary

Edward Charles Koester Died on October 6, 2010 with his wife of 22 years, Betty, and his four children by his first marriage, Charles, Silvia, Stephanie and John at his side. He was born in Wichita, Kansas, the second of five boys on February 25, 1934. He received his degree in Architecture from Notre Dame in 1957. After Notre Dame, he married his first wife Gabriella. He spent three years in the Navy as an officer and was stationed in Morocco for 2 1/2 years. After serving in the Navy, he moved to San Francisco and joined the architectural firm of Kelly, Dodd & Koester. One of their major accomplishments was the Mt. Parnassus Medical Center. He worked for several other firms, on projects including San Francisco Opera Plaza, The Pasadena Convention Center, Ventura County Courthouse, the San Francisco Marriot Hotel, San Diego Omni Hotel, and the restoration of the Coronado Hotel in San Diego. Edward was a man of many talents and passions. He loved music and had wanted to get back to playing his classical guitar and piano in his retirement. He and his wife were avid skiers at Tahoe resorts, lovers of classical music and opera, and regular patrons of the Opera and Symphony. In addition, Edward left behind three wonderful grandchildren, Ethan, Travis, and Isabella, three brothers, Bob, Tom and Paul. A memorial celebration will be held at 2 PM Nov. 12 at 953 De Haro St., SF. In lieu of flowers, send donations to Doctors Without Borders, Oxfam or SF Food Bank.
