Ethelmae Stuart Stibbs Haldan

Aug. 11, 1921 - Jun. 24, 2013

A devoted mother to Linda Pascotto, Glenn Haldan, Stuart Haldan, Dwight Haldan; a caring mother-in-law to Virginia, Claire, Suzanne, Alvaro; a loving grandmother to Rachel, Sarah, Mandy, Gregory, Seth, Graham, Scott, Patrick; adoring great-grandmother to Sequoia, Zane, Kailey; loving sister to Mary Stuart Rogers, caring aunt to Jim, John, Katherine, Frieda, and friend to many, Ethelmae passed away peacefully on Monday, June 24th, at the Stratford in San Mateo, with her daughter, Linda, by her side.

Ethelmae Stuart Stibbs (Stibbsy) was born in Seattle, Washington, grew up in San Mateo, graduated from Miss Shinn's School for Girls, San Mateo High School and Pine Manor Jr. College in Massachusetts. She attended the University of Arizona, where she met Elmer Ellsworth Atkinson. They were married in Colorado Springs in 1943 and had a son, Glenn. Mr. Ellsworth was killed while fighting for his country during WW ll.

In 1946, Ethelmae married James Ermet Haldan, a long-time family friend. They were married 48 years, lived in Hillsborough, California until 1977 when they moved to Glenbrook, Nevada. Ethelmae and Jim had three children, Linda, Stuart and Dwight.

Ethelmae was a cracker-jack domino player and superb needlepoint artist, as well as a volunteer and strong supporter of many charitable organizations, including the Episcopal Church of St. Matthew, Stanford Hospital, and Peninsula Children's Theater Association (PCTA).

Ethelmae was a gracious, elegant, compassionate, and most generous lady, who was always positive and never complained about anything-she will be greatly missed by all who knew her.
