There is not a time when I’m playing golf, while teeing up the ball on the 18th hole that Gary does not enter my thoughts. I miss Gary and his zest for life. He will be forever part of my favorite foursome. May perpetual light shine on his soul and warm his face.

Dear Patti & Family,
As a classmate of Gary's I remember him with a big smile and always ready to share a great joke or two with the rest of us.
You are all in our prayers.
Although we had not chatted for many years since graduation, it's not surprising that he would serve in such an honorable position as a Police Officer and have such a wonderful Family.
May you and the Family find comfort in knowing that his legacy of kindness will continue to touch many lives.
Sincerely,
The Fulbright Family

Dear Patti & Family,
Gary was truly a Great friend and a Throwback to the Real Cop Days. Gary would always be there backing anybody up on the shift. You could tell by the many friends who attended for both services on Fri. and Sat. My partner and I really had some fun days working with him. Gary would always have a grin on his face and we never saw him upset, he was just a Happy and Wonderful person. I'm sure you know about the autograph Drew Bledsoe jersey he framed and hung on his wall. I was the one who sold it to him back in 1992 or 1993. I gave him 1st choice between two jerseys I had for sale as I was going through a divorce and needed the money. I believe I sold it to him for $200.00 that came with a Citibank Rewards Program. We never heard of the other QB at the time and after a few years that QB most likely will be going to The H.O.F. We always laugh about it and he reminds me about the Bledsoe jersey mentioning it to all his friends how he could have gotten the other jersey but we never heard of this guy named Brett Favre! My wife,Jean Solomon always saw your boys at Mission Station and felt the same way about Gary being such a Great friend and "Family Man." Gary will be truly missed and our thoughts and prayers will always be with your family!

I was so saddened when I learned of Gary's passing, so tragic. As all are saddened by this sudden loss, the memories that Gary has left with each of us will bring warmth to our souls and a smile to our faces. Gary surrounded himself with good people, may you and the boys find peace in their comfort. Gary lived life to the fullest and large, loved his family and friends; may we take from him how full his life was and appreciate each and every moment of our own lives as Gary did.
I am a BOD classmate of Gary's. We were friends throughout high school whose lockers were next to each other for 4 years. Fond memories of his twinkling eyes, big smile and of course his laughter.

Patty, I am writing this with the heaviest of hearts...Gary was truly one of the best things that ever happened to me in the SFPD. we were a strange partnership to some, but he embodied the true meaning of the word partner...His sense of loyalty and friendship were unsurpassed....I thank god that I ran into him recently and was able to tell him just how much I loved him and what he meant to me...But more importantly, I will remember our many midnight shifts talking about what YOU and your kids meant to him....you meant everything to him, and always will...This world is a sadder place without him.... My thoughts and prayers will be with you always........Jill Brophy

Not only have the Hazelhofers been great friends of mine for 40-plus years, I coached Gary's baseball team at Corpus Christi. The player-coach bond sometimes lasts a lifetime, and Gary was one of my boys. The last time I saw him, we reminisced about our great upset victory over St. Theresa's so many years ago, and had tears in our eyes. That was also the last time I saw Gary's dad, Max, and I will miss them both terribly.

Dear Patti, Jack and Daniel,
You do not know me however I knew your father and went to school with him from 6th grade on thru BOD.
I just had my knee replaced and was unable to attend our 30th reunion Sat night. I can tell you your father was one of many of my classmates I was excited to see. In all of the many years I grew up with him I never and I mean never was treated with anything but kindness and respect, even when he was a little boy your Dad and husband was one to be proud of. I am a RN and your Dad a police officer so you know at the reunions when we did see each other we did talk shop so to speak, usually with me telling him no hero stuff, be safe, be smart I was so proud of his work in the Mission as a SFPD officer. I am so thankful to have known Gary.
My husband Eric remembers him as well from our reunions.
That is the kind of man he was, people remembered his friendliness, and awesome personality.
I am very upset at his sudden passing, please know I will be in prayer for you Patti, and your sons.
May you feel Gods hand and love on you and around you always knowing Gary and God have your back.
Respectfully,
Valerie Ferrari-Haag, class of 1980 Bishop O'Dowd

Patty, Jack & Danial, We all have lost one of the most amazing persons in our town. He was at every soccer, basketball, baseball, football games that his sons were in. Whenever my son would go over to his home to play with Dan, the first thing he would do was go upstairs to talk with Gary. Gary would ask him about school or sports. He was my sons buddy's. The trips my son took with Gary and his family would be some of the greatest storys my son would tell. When my daughter broke her arm, he carried her to my front door and kept her calm and whispered to me, "I think it's broken", without letting her hear. He had a compassionate way with children, never intimidating. Their home was always open for the kids in the neighborhood to drop by, to watch football games, check out the cars, swim in the backyard and stay for dinner. Our Family will miss him immensley.

I am still in complete shock. I just can't believe this is real, you always had words of advice and that smile of yours was contagious. You were someone I will always look up too, you would not want us all crying but right now I think that is all we can do.
"Perhaps they are not stars, but rather openings in heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy."
Rest in beautiful peace Uncle Gary so thankful the whole family got to spend Thanksgiving together. Your wisdom, love, and of course, sarcasm will live on through us.
