George Couris Obituary
1934 - 2014
On November 15, 2014, George Couris died. Born in Greece to Demetrios and Ioanna Kouris, he immigrated to the United States in 1958. He obtained his medical degree in Greece and his surgical training in the United States and the United Kingdom. George enjoyed the art of surgery (general, vascular and thoracic) and practiced in San Francisco, New York and Sun Valley, Idaho.George's non-surgical life was filled with his passion for ballet, classical music, and his love of skiing. His retirement involved considerable travel, his self-taught oil painting, drawing humorous cartoons and writing poetry. He remained an avid pipe smoker all his life.
George had two exceptional wives (not at the same time!), former wife Avril Couris and Marju Couris, and a unique daughter Britta Couris. He leaves three siblings Pantelis Kouris, Chryssanthie Kouri and Lilika Kouri, and two stepdaughters, Kira Keane and Elke Bray, and their families. To his few chosen friends, acquaintances and his family, he wished a warm goodbye.

George was a good friend who shared great stories with his fellow members of the Golden Gate Pipe club.
His not being with us was far from our thoughts. With an enviable life history he was nevertheless a very humble man whom we all admired.
