Geraldine Moore Obituary

Geraldine Mae Moore Longtime resident of San Francisco, passed away peacefully at a Palo Alto care facility on Wednesday, December 1, 2010. She will be deeply missed by a great many who loved her dearly. Born Geraldine Mae Markiewitch in Hawaii on November 22, 1929, as a young teenager she, along with her parents Joseph and Roseline (Patsy) Markiewitch and two sisters Betty and Diane, moved to the Bay Area, the family settling in San Francisco, where she lived most of her life. After high school, she married Merl O. Moore, a WW II and Korean War veteran, who would eventually work for the San Francisco Chronicle as Assistant Sports Editor, and they moved to Menlo Park to begin raising their family - Michael Patrick in 1950, Neil Joseph in 1953, Mark William in 1956, and Kevin Merl in 1959. Divorced in 1965, she moved herself and her four sons back to San Francisco. She worked downtown at the TransAmerica Building as a microfilm technician for many years, supporting and raising her sons as a hard-working single mom. Surrounded by many family members who had over the years migrated from The Islands to the Mainland, she devoted herself to provide a loving, secure and inspiring upbringing for her children. Geraldine is survived by her loving children, Michael, Neil, Mark, and Kevin; devoted grandchildren Britton, Elise, Jessica, Michael, Beau, Christopher, and Nicholas; great-grandchildren Trevor and Salem; faithful sister Betty Garret; and many wonderful and adoring cousins, nieces and nephews, and friends who will forever remember her as a loving, warm, delightful person. A Celebration Of Life - Hawaiian-style, of course - will be held in her honor and memory on Sunday, January 9, 2011 at the Seaport Convention Center in Redwood City. Family and friends wishing to attend may please contact hoahanau Susan Baker at 650-482-3500.

To Geri's family: My sister and I worked with Geri at Transamerica back in the 60's & 70's. She was so much fun and one of our favorite people. My husband and I saw her several times when we went back to SF for a visit. Our last time was at the Front Room for a St. Patrick's Day drink. Will miss her. Condolences to your family.
