Gladys Lee Hu
Born on April 30, 1919 in Sacramento, CA, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2013 in San Francisco. An elegant and successful business woman, a mother of 7 and grandmother of 14, she influenced the lives of many. At the age of 4, her parents, Mabel and Claude Lee, moved to Brooklyn, NY. She attended Erasmus Hall HS (Brooklyn) and then Hunter College (NY). On Nov. 22, 1942, she married Jackson Kee Hu and moved to San Francisco. Initially she worked briefly as a lab technician, then during the mid-1950's, she began working with her husband, Jackson, in a family owned real estate and insurance brokerage business in San Francisco. In 1974, she was appointed a California Inheritance Tax Appraiser and later a California Probate Referee. She was a member of the board of directors for Self-Help for the Elderly since 1985, and a member of the San Francisco Commission on Aging in 1997. She received many awards and recognition for her service to the community.
She will be fondly remembered for her Sunday night family dinners by her children Wayne, Sherlyn, Karin, Brion, Trent and Adriene, their spouses and her grandchildren. Although she will be greatly missed, she will be united with her parents Mabel and Claude, her husband, Jackson, and her daughter, Loren.
The funeral will be a private family service. On July 21, 2013, there will be a Celebration of Life gathering where family and friends are invited to share wonderful and happy memories of her. Please call her children for event details. Donation may be made in her memory to Self-Help for the Elderly.
