Greg and I were great friends at USF. We sort of dated, but were not really sure about where we stood. Then at about age 60, we reconnected and I adored his firefighter stories and generosity. We had some good times right before he died. In college, I remember going to a wedding with Greg at Treasure Island. What a beautiful wedding it was. I loved being his good friend in college and all the time we spent together. I am so sorry he died so soon and that he suffered consequences of being a firefighter. But that's what he dearly loved! Love and prayers for Greg always. And Buddy.

Greg, I was honored to laugh with you, enjoy great food together, cried together when saying goodbye to Buck. Smiling together when learning you got Buddy.
My heart was grateful that I was able to see you one last time, when visiting with my mom, before heading back to Oregon in April.
Thank you for teaching me not to worry or be negative, but thankful for all that I have and live life to it's fullest!
Thank you for keeping an eye on my grandmother Charlotte.
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be your chauffeur around town with your red convertible.
The neighborhood won't be the same without you in it.
My favorite time of year, was handing out candy with you to all the neighborhood trick-o-treaters.
Your impression upon my heart will never be forgotten.

How blessed I am to have hooked up with Greg again last November. We were great friends at USF and had many fun moments in the last year. Though he had so many challenges, his upbeat attitude carried him through every moment and he was nothing short of FUN to be around. Thanks Greg, for the drinks, dinners, and showing me around beautiful Pleasant Hill, a home you were so proud of. I wanted to celebrate your b'day this year. You owe me! I'll miss you so much...RIP.

Uncle Greg or as I knew him by "Tito". I spent many years housesitting and watching over his loved dog Buck. He and I were good friends. I all ways enjoyed his company and his spirit. He made a differance to all whom he met and will be very much missed.

Greg was the heart of our neighborhood. I looked forward to running into him and Buddy cruising the neighborhood. We would sit and talk about dogs, sports, whatever. He kept me informed on how the Giants and 49ers were doing.
Greg loved our neighborhood, he called it the enchanted forest and always gave us encouraging kind words while we were remodeling our house. Greg truly appreciated the simple things in life. Greg always impressed me because in spite of what he's been though he never complained. To me he was a strong, good natured generous caring man.
Buddy now lives with my husband and I and we believe Greg would be happy knowing Buddy is still living in this neighborhood he loved so much.
Greg, you will truly be missed.

I met Greg a couple of years ago at a neighborhood bar. I was having a "girl's night out" with a friend and he was sitting at the end of the bar. He sent over a round of drinks and when we accepted, he sauntered over and sat between us. Needless to say..I was smitten. We drank and laughed and shared stories and when the night was through, I knew I had made a treasured friend.
We hung out many times after that, meeting for drinks, lunch, dinner and my favorite was hanging out at "Golf World" watching the Niner's play and throwing a ball for his beloved pooch-Buddy.
He always greeted me with a "Hi Baby", and a kiss. Even when he was immersed in watching the Giant's play and his eyes wouldn't leave the screen.
Greg had a passion for the Giant's, the Niner's, puppies, Captain Morgan and pretty girls.
I know this is not really Good-bye, it is simply an "I'll see you later" and I know he will have Buck by his side, a pretty girl on his arm and a cold Rum and Coke in his hand.
Until then, my Friend...Cheers....

Uncle Greg,
Am amazing guy and a legend to all that knew him. My last visit with Greg was at his home where he shared his infamous playground that he had created. The hot tub with the television where he watched the Giants and the Niners. His outdoor bar.The pitch and put golf course and the fabulous river and ponds all tastefully created by himself. One of the most generous men I have ever known. Well miss you at sports days...and I am truely sorry he will not be there to see the Giants win the World Series...he would have loved that. Greg has finally been to his last fire...may his spirit rise again and live on like a Phoenix. God Bless.

I first met Greg in 1989 at the World Police & Firemen Games in Vancouver. He walked over and introduced himself to me and a friend as "Uncle Greg".
What a wonderful friend I gained that day! Me and my cousin, Laura, travelled to California from Canada the following year to see Uncle Greg for laugh-a-minute road trip to Southern California ... Disneyland AND Uncle Greg - how could we not have fun? We then travelled back to Pleasant Hill for a stay with Greg at his beloved "Golf World". He made sure to give us the Grand Tour of San Francisco and was an amazing host.
Another visit to see Greg followed the next year.
I then moved from Canada to Southern California and had the pleasure of seeing Greg at the San Francisco Firemen Games in 1991.
He next travelled to Anaheim, California to spend my wedding week with me and my family in 1994. Of course, everyone IMMEDIATELY fell in love with Uncle Greg and he ended up returning to his home having acquired dozens of new "relatives".
He was a faithful and loving friend through all these years. My last visit with him with two months go - Laura and I again spent several days at Golf World, although this time Uncle Greg was meeting his three teenage "neices and nephew" for the first time. He was so kind to the children and they adored him.
I am so thankful for those last few days we got to spend with him, talking, dining, touring his back yard, playing with his dog, Buddy, and laughing. I am so sad to think that I will not get to see his smile again.
I am attaching a photo I took of Greg in July when he was showing me his back yard flowers.
Rest in piece my beloved Uncle Greg ... we will never stop missing you.
Love Michele

2 Corinthians 5:1-8
“For we know that if the earthly tent which is our house is torn down, we have a building from God, a house not made with hands, eternal in the heavens. For indeed in this house we groan, longing to be clothed with our dwelling from heaven, inasmuch as we, having put it on, will not be found naked. For indeed while we are in this tent, we groan, being burdened, because we do not want to be unclothed but to be clothed, so that what is mortal will be swallowed up by life. Now He who prepared us for this very purpose is God, who gave to us the Spirit as a pledge. Therefore, being always of good courage, and knowing that while we are at home in the body we are absent from the Lord--for we walk by faith, not by sight--we are of good courage, I say, and prefer rather to be absent from the body and to be at home with the Lord.”
Uncle Bernie, cousins John & Joan, and all the many family members I have not seen in too long nor even met as of yet, may you find comfort in knowing Greg is at home with the Lord! May God bless your hearts and homes with His peace, joy, and love at this time of sorrow and reflection.

Greg and I and a bunch of other firemen played hockey together for SFFD. We played to beat LAFD every year and also to benefit the Burn Foundation. Greg never missed a practice. Last time I saw him was in May at the bocce courts in San Rafael. I kidded him at the time by asking if he still stood in front of the mirror to put on his gear and goalie skates and also told him he was a pretty good goalie in his day. Honest as he was and ever the wit, he told me I was a pretty bad coach. We laughed together for the last time. Another good guy gone. Rest in peace Greg.

My heart goes out to Greg's family. He was too young to go. I came in the Fire Dept. with Greg in 1974. He was a true character from the start. He turned out to be a great Fireman and a great guy. God bless you Greg and we will all miss you.

I had the pleasure of knowing Greg since we came into the SFFD together in 1974 in the 52nd recruit class. We worked together many years at Rescue 1 (the Squad), played baseball and ice hockey together, and remained good friends. We enjoyed and shared many exciting times at work, as well as many fun times at Station One picnics, dive trips, and other social functions. WE WILL ALL MISS GREG A GREAT DEAL! He is now with the other legends, and we wish him eternal life hereafter.
