HARVEY MASONEK Obituary

HARVEY MARVIN
MASONEK

Born 9/17/1919

Died 4/24/2013

Harvey was born to Pearl and Isam Masonek in Portland, Oregon. He was the third child, Sanford and Elaine his older siblings pre-deceased him. The family came to San Francisco when Harvey was four years old. He attended Lowell High School and graduated from the University of California at Berkeley, class of 1940.

Harvey served during WWII in the Army as a Chief Warrant Officer. He was attached to the British Army serving under the command of Lord Louis Mountbatten in Delhi, India. After the war he married Bette Hartman who predeceased him. They had two children, Jeff of Corona del Mar and Craig of Alameda County.

Harvey started his own export company in 1958 with his late partner Francis Cappel.

M-C International became one of the largest independent trading companies in the U.S. with offices in the Pacific Rim and Asia. Twenty seven years ago Harvey married Eve Heyman whose late husband Sam, Harvey and Bette were longtime friends.

Harvey was a man of deep wisdom, quick wit, deep love for Eve and the family, and boundless patience. If your quest is to find a person, a single person in this world, who speaks of Harvey with other than love and respect, you will search forever. Everyone who crossed his path, be they his employees or Pi Lambda Phi fraternity brothers, came away enriched by the experience. Harvey had no former friends, only current ones. He worked hard to foster and nurture relationships. His grandchildren, and recently his great grandson, rarely went very long without talking to their Poppie. No friend of Harvey felt forgotten or ignored. If you were in Harvey's world you felt included and important.

Harvey supported numerous causes and organizations. His main interests were education, such as the Masonek International Symposium, the World Affairs Council and United Religions in their effort to stop religious wars.

Harvey is already terribly missed, and his memory cherished by his loving wife Eve, his sons Craig and Jeff, his step-daughter Merrill and step - sons Peter and Russell, his daughter-in-law Jean, grandchildren Aaron, Andee, Justin, Paige, David, Sarah, Anna and Jay, his great grandson Casey, his brother-in-law Frank and sisters-in-law Lya and Valerie.

A celebration of Harvey's life will be held at Temple Emanuel, 2 Lake Street in San Francisco on Monday, April 29th at 2:00 pm. Please make contributions in his name to a cause in which you believe.

I met Harvey in 1985 and after that we became partners in Real Estate deals.

My dear friend and partner for over 10 years was more than what the Obituary had stated. Twenty Seven years ago at Harvey and Eve wedding at a beautiful ceremony, Eve said "I am marrying the Prince of San Francisco". For sure he was a prince in his manners, extremely well spoken, extreme kind and very intelligent. I spoke to him few months ago and I will remember him as that handsome Prince of San Francisco.

Elsie and I shall miss Harvey. Our warm and sincere condolences to Dearest Eve.
