Howard Mailliard Obituary

Howard Mailliard It is with great sadness that we announce Howard Mailliard, 77, passed away on September 23, 2010. Born in 1932, to the pioneer Mailliard family, a 4th generation San Franciscan, he lived in the Bay Area most of his life. He graduated from Town School where he made the first of many lifelong friends. He attended the Taft School where he was well known for his comical antics, as well as his prowess on the basketball court. He attended both Stanford and the University of California at Berkeley and had trouble knowing which "Big Game" team to support. He enlisted in the Armed Forces in 1954 and served two years in Germany where he managed a lively social life despite the austere conditions. Howard led a bit of a unconventional life, choosing not to pursue the family business at Mailliard & Schmiedel, but forging his own path. This path led him to entrepreneur endeavors from Goodyear Rubber Co. to Ratto Rubber and his most recent, Cal Cedar Homes. He was a hard worker, committed to his staff and an honest businessman of the "Old School." Above all, Howard was a gentleman of great warmth and humor. Howard is survived by his wife of 53 years, Tonya Wildman Mailliard; Daughters: Page, Lynn and Jeanie Mailliard; Grandchildren: Sarah, Tracie, Nicholas, Ben and Timmy. Howard is also survived by his devoted family members, Suzi and Lottie. He was preceded in death by his parents, Tom and Jean Mailliard and sisters, Nancy Peck and Jeanie Green. Services will be held on Saturday, October 9th at 4:00p.m., St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, 1 South El Camino Real, San Mateo, CA. Donations can be made to Nathan Adelson Hospice, 3391 N Buffalo, Las Vegas, NV 89129.
