Dr. Irving Bernard
Tapper Born 4/9/1910, passed away 2/21/13. He was his parents', immigrants from Poland, first child born in the USA. As a child, he loved playing violin creating a love of classical music throughout his life. He graduated from the University of Akron and Ohio State School of Dentistry. During WWlI he served as a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy, Following his military service, he had a pediatric dental practice in Cleveland for 53 years. He was a president of the Cleveland Dental Society, president of the Ohio Dental Association, and Ohio's representative in the American Dental Association. In 1963, he joined the out-patient dept. at Mount Sinai Hospital of Cleveland, Edward Reiterate Cleft Palate Clinic. In 1972, he served on the Welfare Federation of Cleveland, as a member of the Dental Health Task Force. In 1976, he became the first director of the Pediatric Dental Clinic of Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital of Case Western Reserve University in a clinic for handicapped children. At CWRU, he also taught clinical dentistry as a professor emeritus. He was always devoted to his Jewish heritage and active in Jewish life. In 1998, He and Jeanne established the Irving & Jeanne Tapper Pediatric Dental Center at the University hospitals of Cleveland, Ohio, and Case Western Reserve University. They were always extremely proud of the center bearing their names. Irving and Jeanne lived at The San Francisco Towers from 1997-the present. Irving will be greatly missed by his children, grandchildren and his 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Sunday, February 24th at 2:00 pm at Home of Peace Cemetery Chapel, 1299 El Camino Real in Colma. Interment to follow services.
