Janet B. MacDonald
Janet Barbour MacDonald, 84, died in Petaluma on 7/24/13 from complications of Alzheimer's disease. Born in Los Angeles on 11/1/28; she graduated from John Marshall High School, Woodbury Business College and Stanford University.
She married Robert MacDonald in 1958 and had two children; a devoted stay at home mother/wife for many years and a dedicated volunteer through her adult life. She was an active member of Hillcrest Congregational Church in Pleasant Hill for many years. She cared for her own mother, who suffered from Alzheimer's disease, for 10 years. In the 1970-80s she managed the Math-Science Network. Later, after the marriage ended, Jan took the opportunity to finish her college education at Stanford that she had stopped decades earlier. She graduated from Stanford in 1989 with a BA in Communications. She went on to work for the Buck Center for Research in Aging in Novato until her retirement in 1995 and then lived at several assisted living facilities since 2001.
Preceded in death by her parents Marjorie (Churchill) and George Barbour, cousin Marjorie Cooper and former husband Robert MacDonald. Survived by her children Angus MacDonald and Suzanne MacDonald, beloved grandchildren Ryan O'Halleran and Morgan O'Halleran, daughter-in-law Karen Callahan, son-in-law Stephen Forkins, and former son-in law Thomas O'Halleran.
