Jess McVey Obituary

Jess McVey Feb. 12, 1918 to June 28, 2010 Was a tomboy, daughter, sister, sailor, wife, mother, organic gardener, nature lover, librarian, fisherman, free thinker, civil rights activist, world traveler, anti-war activist, feminist, hippy, forester, rock hound, philatelist, lover, lesbian, totally unique artist, sculptor, painter, grandmother, AIDS volunteer, LGBT activist, environmental activist, great grandmother, and friend. She is survived by daughter Nancy Slavin, sons Tom and Sam Giese, and daughter Ellen Yoshisugu. Her daughter Susan Martinez preceded her in death and is survived by Donna and James Martinez. A Memorial was held on August 8, 2010 at the San Francisco LGBT Community Center. Donations in Jess McVey's name may be made to Global Fund for Women (415-248-4800, www.globalfundforwomen.org).

McVey was also a member of OLOC--Old Lesbians Organizing for Change and always had strong views on what that change should be. She will be greatly missed.
