John Macchello Obituary

John Dino Macchello Entered into heaven surrounded by his loving family on October 26, 2010, at the age of 88. John was the loving husband of Jeanne for more than 57 years. Cherished father of Rita, Gerry (Debbie), Judy ( John dec.) Riccio and Laurie (Alec) Kay. Adored Nonno of Gianna, Carina, Isabella and Joseph. Beloved brother of the late Pete and Ugo. Dear brother-in-law of Lorraine Macchello and Aldiva Fontana. John is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and other loving relatives and friends. Born in Daglio, Italy, John's family emigrated to North Beach in San Francisco in 1928. John was a partner of the Sunset Scavengers for more than 40 years. He served in the US Army during World War II and was present at the invasion of Normandy and the liberation of Paris. He was an original 49er faithful season ticket holder. He was a member of the YMI Council #613 and the Young at Heart Club of the Immaculate Conception Chapel. Friends may visit Thursday (tonight) after 4 p.m. and are invited to attend the Rosary also on Thursday (tonight) at 7 p.m. in addition to the Funeral Mass on Friday at 10 a.m., all at Immaculate Conception Chapel, 3255 Folsom St., San Francisco, followed by the Committal service at Holy Cross Cemetery in Colma. Memorial donations may be made to the Franciscan Friars, Immaculate Conception Chapel, 3255 Folsom St, S.F., 94110 or to the American Diabetes Assoc. Online condolences may be offered at www.vmpandco.com. The family would like to extend their gratitude to Dr. Remo Morelli, Dr. Eugene Groeger and the staff of St. Mary's Medical Center for their skillful and compassionate care of John. Dad, your life was full of loving deeds, Forever thoughtful of our needs. Today and tomorrow, our whole lives through, We will always love and cherish you. We look back on our childhood and thank the stars above, For everything you gave to us but mostly for your love.
