John Patrick Monestere, child of God and witness to the Resurrection, passed away unexpectedly on June 10, 2012 in Venice, Italy. He was working in, and loving, his favorite city, leading a group of travelers through Rome, Florence and Venice. John is survived by his two daughters, Amanda Monestere Howard and her husband Derric, presently residing on Dubai, U.A.E.; Emily Monestere Zimmerman and her husband Mike, residents of Denver, Colorado; his brothers Joseph, Andrew and Walter; and his former wife of 32 years, Noralee Monestere McKersie. John was looking forward to the birth of his first grandchild in August. John was born in 1949 in Freeport New York. He received his Hotel Management training at Cornell University, then trained and served as Assistant Manager at the Waldorf Astoria in New York, and managed a resort and conference center in Shawnee, Pennsylvania before coming to California. For more than two decades he expertly stewarded the Carlton Hotel San Francisco where he trained and mentored many future hotel managers. He was VP of Western Management Alliance and later Corporate Director of Food and Beverage and Regional Manager for Marin Management. In 2009 he launched Hoteltravelrewards.com, an internet travel website. His latest adventure was with Lost Travel Tours. He served his community as President of the San Francisco Hotel Association and was a longtime trustee of the San Francisco Hotel Employee Pension Health, Education and Legal Funds. John cherished his family and friends. He loved to work, travel, entertain, cook and read. His lasagna is legendary. He will be sorely missed by all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at St. Hilary Catholic Parish, 761 Hilary Drive, Tiburon, CA 94920 on Thursday, June 28, 2012 at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Diabetes Foundation.
