Joseph Welles Cooper, Jr. Passed peacefully at the age of 96 on December 27 with his family by his side. Joseph was the loving husband of Gwen S. Cooper (deceased) and beloved father of Mary Margaret Cooper Tedd (deceased), and Joseph W. Cooper III. Adored grandfather of Phoebe Jane Oldrey, Kimberly Welles Flores and Catherine Gwen Dandurand. Joseph is survived by three great grandsons, Lucas and Seth Oldrey and Logan Welles Flores. Born on February 3, 1916 in San Francisco, California to Joseph and Margaret Cooper. Raised in Oroville and after being home schooled on the family ranch, Joseph attended Oroville High School. Later he received a Bachelor of Science in Business from the University of California, Berkeley, graduating Phi Beta Kappa. He served in World War II as a flight Officer in the U.S. Navy. Following the War Joseph married Gwen and worked in finance at McAllister Buick in San Francisco where he later became CFO and owner of McAlister Leasing. He retired after selling the business to Crocker Bank. Joseph enjoyed the Opera, his membership in The Family since 1970, the outdoors and most of all fly fishing and took pride in catching fish all over the world on flies he had personally tied since the age of twelve.
