Ken and I met first at the age of five in the Kindergarten of the Madison School, near where both of us lived in the Richmond District of San Francisco. Even at that early age, Ken had a warm, generous personality that I appreciated very much because I came from a recent refugee family from Hitler's Germany, and was in the throes of learning a new language and new customs.
As Kindergarten classmates, Ken and I became fast friends soon after we met. Neither of us was very athletic and we spent our "recess" time walking around the school yard talking and talking.
After six years at Madison we went on to 7th Grade at Roosevelt Junior High School, also in the Richmond District. Here we were assigned to separate "home rooms" and
had less time together. We did have a few classes together including Mr. Fast's English class which we both enjoyed. We both developed an interest in keeping beautiful tropical fish in small, heated aquariums, a hobby that Ken continued to enjoy right up to the last time I visited him, a few months before his death.
Finally, we entered Lowell High School

Oh Ken! I loved knowing you and spoke to you just prior to this sad news. You were an awesome person and friend, and every time I visited SF, I loved visiting you! You will be surely missed...Joey, (Shenson's Deli)...Charlie and Sam....So sorry for your loss. Your Dad always spoke so highly of the two of you and how proud he was of you both.
