Max Rittmann Obituary

Max Virgil Rittmann Sept. 23, 1934-Nov. 13, 2010 Easy going and endlessly hospitable, Max Rittmann will be remembered as a fine and generous cook, a dedicated golfer, and a man with a prodigious facility for numbers and a photographic memory. After graduating with a degree in Petroleum Engineering, Max spent two years drilling for natural gas in Colorado and Wyoming before earning an MBA at the Wharton School in Pennsylvania. Concentrating on the oil industry, he was an analyst for the Kewanee Oil Company and then a stockbroker in El Paso. In 1968, Max and his wife Mary Kate Surratt Rittmann moved to Orinda, California, where they raised their family. Margaret now lives in Ayr, Scotland, with her husband Paul Newall; Matt now lives in Moraga with his wife Juliandra and their two small sons, Max and Ryan; Charles lives in New York City. In 1987, Max resigned as Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager, Crocker Investment Management Company in San Francisco, to found his own firm, Rittmann Capital Management, which continues to be run by Matt Rittmann. Friends and family are invited to attend a service at Saint Stephen's Church, in Orinda, California, on Wednesday, November 17 at 2 pm, and a reception afterward. Memorial contributions may be made to the Bruns House, Hospice of the East Bay, 3470 Buskirk Avenue, Pleasant Hill, CA 94523, or to the Rhode Island School of Design for student scholarships, attention Louise Olson, 2 College Street, Providence, RI 02903.

I have fond memories of working for and with Max at ISI in SF around 1970. I'm sure he will be missed greatly by his family and friends. He was an extremely nice, gentle man.
