Patrick O'Melveny |
Patrick O'Melveny passed away peacefully at his home on February 13th, 2013 at the age of 87. His wife and members of his family were by his side.
Patrick was born on November 12th, 1925 in Los Angeles to the late John and Corinne O'Melveny. He attended high school at Harvard Academy and Occidental College. He served in WWII on the USS General J.H. McRae. He was honorably discharged with the rank Quartermaster Third Class.
His long career in banking in Los Angeles and San Francisco included serving as Senior Vice President for Union Bank and as a consultant for Wells Fargo. He also worked at the Delamo Estate Company.
He served on the board of trustees of the Good Samaritan Hospital in Los Angeles. He also served on the board of trustees and was later president of the Barlow Hospital in Los Angeles. He was a member of board of California Guide Dogs for the Blind for many years and later became a director. He was a director of the California State Automobile Association from 1977 to 2000 - he served as chairman of the board from 1993-1994. Upon retirement he was made a honorary lifetime member of the board of directors.
Patrick was active in the Bohemian Club since 1959, serving as camp captain of Lost Angels camp. He was on the board of directors and then president in 1981-1983. He was a member of the Old Guard and the List of Fifty. He was a former member of the Tuna Club, Catalina and a long time member of the Sunset Club.
He is survived by his wife Missie of 54 years, and sons John (Mavorneen), Michael (Kenna), Dennis (Elizabeth) and Sean (Polina). And grandchildren: Kaitlin, Patrick, Andrew, Sabrina, Zachary, William and Lillian.
A noted raconteur and bon vivant. Patrick was a man of many diverse interests and gathered friends and admirers wherever he went.
