Richard (Dick) Coates |
85 years old, of Sonoma California passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2013. He was born in San Francisco California to Clifford Coates and Helen (Hyland) Coates.
He was raised in San Francisco and was the oldest of four children. He gradated from Lincoln High School in 1945. He served in the Army and was stationed in Germany for 3 years. Following his service, he joined his father (who started the business in the 1920's) and family working at Golden State Flooring for 50+ years. Richard Coates married his first wife, Patricia Taylor, in 1956 and they had three children together. He married his second wife, Diane Marino, in 1980 and they were married for 33 years. He loved the outdoors and spending many summers in Lake Tahoe. He was also a huge fan of boxing, the SF Giants and 49ers.
Beloved husband to the late Diane Coates, loving father to Michael Coates (wife Diana), Richard Coates (wife Cindy) and Laura (Coates) Nicolson (husband Malcolm). He was the Stepfather to Kay Asmussen (husband Richard) and John Marino (wife Denise); Proud grandfather to Thomas, Michael Paul, Brandon, Justin, Nicholas, Sara, Maria, Isabelle, John, Dylan, Aidan and Haley; Brother to Jack Coates (wife Aurita), Judy Scotchmoor (husband Roland) and Marsia Johnson (husband Ralph). He had one great grandchild and many loving nieces & nephews.
