Oct. 21, 1941 - Feb. 27, 2013
Roberto passed away peacefully in San Francisco after a brief illness and will be sadly missed by his partner of 38 years, Robert Van Horn; beloved son of Aurora Rodriguez of San Francisco. He was predeceased by his father, Joaquin Rodriguez and brothers Jack and Carlos. Roberto is lovingly remembered by his brothers and sisters-in-law Marion of Lewisville, TX, Louis and Eileen of Flower Mound, TX, and Roland and Karen of Parlin, N.J. Roberto was a loving uncle, great-uncle, cousin and friend to many.
Roberto was born in the Bronx and graduated from Erasmus Hall High ('59) and Brooklyn College ('63). He began his long career as an educator in New York City and continued in San Francisco when he arrived in 1971. For over 30 years he was a gifted teacher and counselor at Mission Reading Clinic, Potrero Hill Middle School and Balboa High, earning a Masters Degree in Counseling at USF in 1990. Both before and after retiring in 2003 Roberto was always involved in the Latino Community and was a mentor to students and staff alike. He served as past president of the Latin American Teachers Assn.
Roberto, passionate about the Arts, was a frequent volunteer at Davies Hall, the Brava, Herbst and New Conservatory Theaters, the JCC, the Paramount and many film festivals. Roberto's legendary sense of humor, imitations and running gags make him just "too much fun to lose"!
