Roger Martin Obituary

Roger B. Martin Passed away December 4, 2010. Born January 19, 1930 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Roger graduated from Berkeley High School in 1947 and then served in the Army for three years. He then attended San Francisco State. After seven years in the SFPD, he transferred to the SFFD. He loved the camaraderie of the Fire Department and enjoyed a long, successful career at 2 Truck until retiring in 1982. During the same period in his "free" time, he founded CC Equipment in partnership with Rita, retiring in 1983. Roger was an enthusiastic athlete; he especially enjoyed playing baseball at SF State, tennis and golf, and the LA-SF Games. He also loved playing handball at the Olympic Club, recently celebrating 50 years of membership. Roger will be dearly missed by his many friends, but most of all by his family-his children Elizabeth Timmerman (Pete), Katherine (Patrick) and Michael (Joy). He adored his grandsons, Cooper and Riley Timmerman and Daniel and Joseph Martin. He will be remembered by his former wife, Rita, as well as his niece, Luana Horstkotte and her son Ryan, and his niece, Gina Hughes. He was preceded in death by his father, John B. Martin, his mother, Grace, and stepfather, Joseph Jordan and sister, Stella Horstkotte. A service will be held on Thursday, December 9 at 11:00am at St. Monica's Catholic Church at Geary and 23rd Avenue in San Francisco. A reception will follow at the Olympic Club (Lakeside), at 599 Skyline Boulevard, San Francisco. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your favorite charity or the SFFD Toy Program.
