Ruth Isaacson (July 28, 1921 - June 17, 2012) Born Ruth Ettlinger in Germany, as a teen she escaped Nazism and worked in Great Britain. After immigrating to the US she married Robert Isaacson and had 5 children: Daniel, Donald, Dorothy, Douglas, and Debra. Living in Oakland since 1956 she volunteered and worked for the public schools attended by her children eventually becoming secretary at Claremont Junior High where staff and students showered her with appreciation and she received the Marcus Foster Distinguished Educator Award. In retirement, Ruthie did healing bodywork. A tiny woman with long gray braids, she zipped around on her bicycle taking food to a women's shelter, and hosted visitors from around the world. While confined to her home by a heart ailment during her later years she continued to welcome guests and alleviate suffering through her healing work. Ruthie is predeceased by her husband and survived by five children and five grandchildren.
