See Dock Fan Born October 29, 1924 in Canton (Guangzhou), China, See Dock "Peter" Fan passed away peacefully and quietly on January 29, 2013 at the age of 88. He was a proud, loyal, and devoted husband, father, and grandfather, U.S. citizen and friend to many in America and his homeland.
See Dock Fan came to the United States and settled in San Francisco at age 12. He attended Jean Parker Elementary, Francisco Junior High, and Galileo High School before earning an Associate of Science degree from City College of San Francisco.
During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army and attained the rank of staff sergeant.
While stationed in Hawaii, he met Hang Fa Wong, and after an extended courtship, the two were married in 1952.
After the War, he became an electronic technician and continued his service to his adopted country as a civilian employee in the U.S. Navy working for parts of four decades at Hunters Point and Mare Island Naval Shipyards.
A passionate San Francisco 49ers season ticket holder for more than 50 years, he was active in the Chinatown community as treasurer of the American Chinese Presbyterian Missionary Society and served on various boards of directors for the Ong Ko Met, Pui Ying, and Kong Chow Family Associations.
He was predeceased by his father, Sing Chin; mother, Gim Lan Chin; brother, Gim Soon Choy; and sister, Lan Heung Cho.
He is survived by his loving wife, Hang Fa; and their children; Lawrence Fan; Dr. Stephen Fan, D.M.D. and his wife, Landa; and Lillian (Fan) Chou and her husband, Davy. He cherished the role of grandfather to Jenny (Fan) Camburn and her husband, Thomas Camburn; Jonathan Fan, Daniel Chou, Sarah Chou, and Hannah Chou.
The visitation will be on Wednesday, February 6, 3p.m. with Vigil Service at 7:30p.m. at Duggan's Serra Mortuary, 500 Westlake Ave., in Daly City. The funeral service will be Thursday, February 7, 9:30 a.m. at the same facility. Internment will follow at the Sacramento Valley National Cemetery in Dixon, CA.
In lieu of flowers, the family would be welcome donations made in See Dock Fan's name to Self Help for the Elderly or KQED.
