Susan Elder

ELDER, Susan - Susan was born on March 28, 1939 in Evansville, Indiana. A self-described army brat as a child, she went on to Northwestern University where she graduated with a degree in journalism. She was a gifted writer who became a gifted mother to her sons Joshua, Aaron and David Persky, through her marriage to Dr. Murray Persky. The family lived for many years on 6th Avenue in San Francisco. Susan loved all things French, and in her 30s she received a masters degree in French literature from San Francisco State University. She taught French at Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera, and later worked for the Registrar of Voters in San Francisco. Her son Joshua predeceased her in 1991. Susan was an emotional and intellectual force who touched the lives of many people with her passion and generosity. She passed away on May 31, 2005. We will miss her and remember her at a memorial service on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 4 p.m. at Grace Cathedral, 1100 California St, SF.
