Susan Elder Obituary

ELDER, Susan - Susan was born on March 28, 1939 in Evansville, Indiana. A self-described army brat as a child, she went on to Northwestern University where she graduated with a degree in journalism. She was a gifted writer who became a gifted mother to her sons Joshua, Aaron and David Persky, through her marriage to Dr. Murray Persky. The family lived for many years on 6th Avenue in San Francisco. Susan loved all things French, and in her 30s she received a masters degree in French literature from San Francisco State University. She taught French at Marin Country Day School in Corte Madera, and later worked for the Registrar of Voters in San Francisco. Her son Joshua predeceased her in 1991. Susan was an emotional and intellectual force who touched the lives of many people with her passion and generosity. She passed away on May 31, 2005. We will miss her and remember her at a memorial service on Thursday, June 9, 2005 at 4 p.m. at Grace Cathedral, 1100 California St, SF. The one we all hold in common - you made us bigger than life. you gave us all your passion for life and each of us a specialnesss that makes us better for having known you. The world was a more interesting place with you in it.

I have many fond memories of Susan...countless car rides to Tahoe

since our families shared a ski cabin through the 70's, her car "Bessie", her taking us to a concert at the original Winterland, and she and my Mom taking us to a 1975 Rolling Stones concert in LA, a

particular ski weekend in which she took me to get stitches and looked after me, my family meeting up with her in Paris for dinner, a special Christmas spent with her and her son Aaron in a small French village, and the many interesting conversations we had.

I am very sad over her passing. I will remember her youthful spirit, emotional energy, and open mind.
