Sylvia Cohen Obituary

Sylvia Frank Cohen Was born on a cold, winter day, December 1, 1917, in Worcester, Mass., and died on a cold summer day, August 24, 2010, in San Francisco. She lived 92 years of sunshine. Sylvia was an independent woman who had a rewarding career with the Department of the Army for 33 years, mostly in the Presidio of San Francisco. After retirement at age 55, she enjoyed a fulfilling life occupied with family and friends, travel, arts and crafts, and technology. All of her creative endeavors-from silk-screening to quilting to card-making-she tackled with enthusiasm and humor. In her later years, her computer was her favorite toy as well as source of information. Sylvia was predeceased by parents Pearl and Joseph Cohen; sister Roslyn Hack and husband Philip Hack and sister Evelyn Gross and husband Robert Gross. She was always Aunt Sibi to her surviving East Coast relatives-nephew Martin (Silvana) Hack; nieces Roberta (Robert) Kunen; Gail (Robert) Blizard; Paula (Michael) Evans and their extended families. Also among her survivors are many West Coast friends. Her ashes were scattered at sea on a warm, clear day. Donations may be made in her memory to a charity of the donor's choice.
