Thomas Wayne Ortega
Thomas Wayne Ortega passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday May 14, 2013, at the age of 64, surrounded by his family. Tom is survived by his wife Rosa Lillian Arguello of 21 years, sons Joseph Phillip and Jacob Wayne, sister Bonnie Romero (Ivan), and numerous nieces, cousins and extended family.
Tom was born in San Francisco, CA on January 18, 1949 to parents Joseph and Flora Ortega. Later, the family moved to Pacifica, CA where he graduated from Terra Nova High School. Tom retired from the San Francisco Chronicle after 34 yrs of service - always a loyal employee and a proud Teamster.
Tom loved nothing more than family and friends, a glass of good Zinfandel, laughing and telling stories, and making sure all were having a good time. He was as kind as he was funny, and Tom was hilarious. He was generous as he was compassionate, always giving to family and friends. Most importantly, he loved spending quality time with his sons, Joseph and Jacob, by watching Giants and 49er games. Tom also loved bowling and spending countless hours on the golfing range and putting green - trying to figure it out. Tom had the biggest heart, the loudest laugh, and the warmest smile. Those who met him just once never forgot him. He will be remembered for his fighting spirit, good humor and brave loving heart.
Tommy is now "drinking wine and playing golf with Jesus up there - rest easy." He might just have figured it out.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, June 1st, 1 p.m. at St Paul's Catholic Church, 1660 Church Street, San Francisco.
