Beloved husband, father, grandfather, faithful friend, square-rig sailor, Italian sports car enthusiast, and wonderful human being Timothy Przygocki passed away peacefully after a long illness on February 19, 2014.
Tim was born on October 7, 1948 to Marie and Joseph Przygocki (Przak) in Mishawaka, Indiana and graduated Mishawaka High School in 1968. Drafted in 1969, he served in the Army HHC V COSCOM in Frankfurt, Germany. Son Damion Steele was born to first wife Cindy Waidner in 1969. After briefly attending Notre Dame University in South Bend, Tim moved to San Francisco in 1972. Captivated by the historic full-rigged ship BALCLUTHA, he made historic ship preservation his passion and career, starting as a volunteer for the San Francisco Maritime Museum and working his way up to historic ship rigger. His unique skills lead to many interesting jobs, including serving on the crew of the replica ship GOLDEN HINDE in 1979 when she sailed to Japan for the filming of the miniseries Shogun and where Tim and other crew members acted as extras in the film. His time in Japan also lead to a love of Japanese food and culture. When the BALCLUTHA and the Maritime Museum were transferred to the National Park Service, Tim became a federal employee. He had two children by second wife Cynndie Hammer: Augustino in 1982 and Priscilla in 1985. He met future wife Robbyn Jackson when she worked on a project to document the BALCLUTHA in 1987 and the two were married in Maui in 1996. In the mid-1990s Tim started his second career at Maritime as the park's Safety and Hazardous Materials manager. His many years working on the historic ships had given him a clear understanding of the complex and dangerous work involved in historic ship preservation and he was as passionate about taking care of his fellow employees and park visitors as he was about the ships. His new job afforded him opportunities to work with many NPS national and regional safety personnel as well as those in San Francisco city and county. Over the years Tim also developed many friendships with the folks who work on Fisherman's Wharf. Tim retired from the National Park Service in September 2010 and enjoyed restoring and then driving his 1979 Alfa Romeo Spider Veloce.
A passionate, charming man who could make anyone laugh, Tim will be missed by his family and his many friends. He is survived by wife Robbyn Jackson, step-mother Mary Gregor, sons Damion (Michelle) Steele and Augustino Przygocki, daughter Priscilla Przygocki, 3 grandchildren, sister Carolyn (Joey) Schwalbach, half-brothers Eric and John Przygocki and half-sisters Daphne and Jade Przygocki.
A celebration of his life will be held this summer in San Francisco. For information contact: [email protected]. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to: Coming Home Hospice, CPMC Foundation, 2015 Steiner Street, SF, CA 94115; Pathways Hospice Foundation, [email protected]; or Balclutha Restoration, San Francisco Maritime National Park Association, Building E, Fort Mason Center, SF, CA 94123.

Tim,
As a new employee to SF Maritime you were the first to extend your hand to me in friendship. It was nice that it also held a Guiness. Thanks you for the time we had here. See you soon. Fair winds.

My deepest sympathy to Tim's family. I think that Tim's energy was just too big to be contained in any one person. That he gave a bit of himself away to the people around him. And that some of his energy will always remain in the hearts and minds of everyone who knew him. Tim will be missed, and long remembered.
