William "Bill" Davies In Davis, CA, Bill returned to the serenity of his Higher Power after a brave battle with interstitial lung disease. A native San Franciscan of the Haight, '56 graduate of St. Ignatius College Prep, diehard Giants and Niners fan, and ardent train enthusiast, Bill was a loyal 38-year employee for the Southern Pacific Railroad at 1 Market. Bill is survived by his lifelong companion, Connie Davies of Davis, CA, his devoted children Maggie and Tim Murtagh of San Francisco, Paul and Julie Davies of Brentwood, and Donna and Rick Ramírez of Davis. He adored his four grand-daughters Mackenzie, Madison, Sarah and Maya and held a close friendship with his former wife, Pauline. Bill was part of an extensive community of friends of "Bill W." (fellowships from Denver, to Morro Bay to Woodland, CA who describe "still Bill" as grateful, friendly, thoughtful and accepting). He was loved by several nephews, nieces, cousins including Lee French and Roseanna Hughes and friends made everywhere. A rock hound and lover of the sciences, Bill willed his remains to the teaching and research enterprise at UC San Francisco. In addition to being a devoted son to his late mother, Babe, Bill was a strong supporter of community-based recovery programs. Donations made to the Yolo Wayfarers Center are appreciated in lieu of flowers.
