Iku Boothby Passed away Wednesday, October 14, 2009 at Stanford University Hospital, Palo Alto, at 85 years of age. A native of San Francisco, 42-year resident of Newark. Survived by her husband of 49 years, Robert L. Boothby of Newark; sons, Jack A. Boothby and his wife, Sheilah of San Francisco, Joseph R. Boothby and his wife, Kaleda of San Francisco, and Paul R. Boothby and his wife, Lanny of Sunnyvale; sisters, Kiyo Yamamoto of Novato, Aiko Sakai of Torrance, Hisako Kato and her husband, Richard of Las Vegas, and Etsuko Koniezcki of Mill Valley; brothers, Yoichi Yamamoto and his wife, Dorothy of La Habra, and Ricky Yamamoto of Hercules; grandchildren, Petra, Sydney, Kimiko, and Zachary; and many nieces, nephews, and other kindred. Mrs. Boothby was brought up in Berkeley, and graduated from Berkeley High School in 1942. During World War II she and her family were interned in camps at Topaz, Utah, Tule Lake, and Crystal City, Texas. She later became a registered nurse, and worked in several hospitals; she retired from Children's Hospital, San Francisco in 1986. Member, California Nurses Association. Friends and acquaintances are cordially invited to attend memorial services Tuesday, November 17 at 2:00 p.m. at Berkeley Methodist United Church, 1710 Carlton Street, Berkeley. Private interment, Sunset View Cemetery, El Cerrito. Memorial donations, if desired, may be made to American Lung Association, 1900 Powell Street 800, Emeryville CA 94608. Sunset View Mortuary Tel.
