Yetta Schneider Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 9, 2010.
Yetta Schneider A beloved wife, mother and beauty, was born as Yetta Meisel in 1919 in San Francisco, California. Yetta was the daughter of Anna Sender Meisel and Louis Meisel. She is survived by her two children, Marilyn Schneider and Barry Schneider, daughter in law Lorin Schneider, grandchildren Cary Schneider and Britton Barkoff (Matthew Barkoff), and great grandchildren Jonah and Mia Barkoff. She had a step brother, Robert Meisel and step sister, Matilda Meisel in Pennsylvania. As a child, Yetta moved to Los Angeles, where she lived in Boyle Heights. Her family moved back to San Francisco when she was 7 years old. She attended Roosevelt Junior High School and Commerce High School. Yetta was a woman who will be remembered as an indomitable spirit by all present in every room she ever walked into. She was an actress in her youth, but too shy to go to Hollywood, although sought after by talent agents. She soon got over her shyness and rose to Diva status, after meeting her predeceased husband of 53 years, Mervyn Schneider, a prominent San Francisco Attorney. Mervyn was the son of Rose and Louis Schneider. Yetta was involved in charity work for the City of Hope and was a participant in many of the Saints and Sinners activities. She enjoyed golf and her crowing achievement was a Hole in One at Silverado Golf Club, which resulted in the shriek heard around the world. A memorial grave site service will be held on Wednesday November 10, 2010 at 12:OOpm at the Home of Peace Chapel, 1299 El Camino Real, Colma, CA. We wish to thank the entire staff of the Jewish home of San Francisco. Yetta's challenging character and personality kept them all on their toes. All at the home gave Yetta the care and compassion of champion gold standard caregivers. Every moment with Yetta was an adventure in living, in humor and in drama.... she will always be remembered and missed and always present in our lives. Donations to the Jewish Home, 302 Silver Ave S.F. 94112 would be greatly appreciated.

Dear Barry, Lauren and family,
Merv waited a long time for Yetta to join him! The two of them are probably up there enjoying a game of cards with Dave & Edna at this very moment! Blessings to your family. Love, Linda & Rich Goodman
