Clifford Landers "Jake" Jacobsen, age 71 passed away on March 14, 2014, in Westlake (Daly City), California with his son Jason by his side. |
Born October 17, 1942, in San Francisco, California, Cliff attended St Cecilia's Catholic Elementary School, Aptos Junior High School and Lincoln High School. He married Leah Petropolis in January 1964 (divorced in 1988) and together they had two children, Kirsten & Jason. They moved to Pacifica in 1968 and raised a family.
Cliff joined the United States Navy at 17 years of age and honorably served 4 years of active duty and an additional 4 years as a reservist. He became a Boatswain Mate 3rd class and during his career served during the Cuban Missile Crisis and sailed to numerous Asian ports of call. He loved the sea, he loved the Navy and was very proud of his years serving. He always shared many colorful stories of his adventures. After the Navy, Cliff worked as lineman, crew foreman and electrical troubleshooter, for Pacific Gas & Electric until retirement.
Cliff was known as an interesting and colorful character to everyone he knew and met. He enjoyed locksmithing as a hobby. When Cliff was young, his parents owned a summer home in Rio Nido and he spent summers there all through childhood into adulthood. He later spent many happy years hiking with his family to his own handmade cabin in the woods on his property in the mountains, also in Rio Nido. Cliff had a tremendous heart for the Russian river area and split his retirement years between Laughlin, Nevada and Westlake in Daly City.
Cliff is survived by his two children, daughter Kirsten Leah (Jacobsen) Peters (Tony) of Sonoma, CA, son Jason Clifford Jacobsen (Natasha) of Sonoma, CA, grandson Jared David Seeyle of Sonoma, CA, granddaughter Amanda Marie Peters of Sonoma, CA, brother Daniel Jacobsen of Oregon, ex-wife Leah (Jacobsen) Lowery of Sonoma, CA, his nieces and nephews including Ida Marie (Jacobsen) Coassolo of Gilbert, Arizona, Henry Jacobsen of Jerome, Idaho, Andrew Jacobsen of Boise, Idaho, many great nieces and nephews, his lifelong friend Jim Miinch and the girls"Goofy" and "Hannah". A very special thank you to friends Gary and Jack for taking care of Dad and "the girls."
Cliff was predeceased by his longtime partner Diana Kleis, his niece Madeline Jacobsen and parents Henry Cecil Jacobsen & Madeline (Haas) Jacobsen.
Please join us for a viewing on Tuesday March 25th from 3 p.m. - 7 p.m. or on Wednesday, March 26 from 5 p.m. -7 p.m. with the funeral service beginning at 7 p.m. and a reception to follow.
Services will be held at DUGGAN'S SERRA MORTUARY, 500 Westlake Ave, Daly City, CA 94014.
Cliff will have a burial at sea ceremony with Navy honors at a later date.
