Jody was born in 1914 in Kaw City, Oklahoma, the youngest of 5 siblings. In 1944, she was transferred from St. Louis to San Francisco to be the personnel director of the 4th Army Airfield. She met and married Peter E. Haas, Sr. in 1945. Together they had three children, Peter Edgar Haas, Jr., Michael Stern Haas, and Margaret Elizabeth Haas.
