Thomas Lara, Jr.


Entered into rest at his home of 60 years. He dedicated his energy, into supporting youth sports by launching, coaching and managing the San Bruno Baseball Leagues for over a half century. His recently deceased wife Connie of 69 years was the love of his life and a great loss to him and his family. He was dedicated to his children Tommy III, Linda Salcedo and Paul Lara ( wife Sandy ). Also survived by his brother Lawrence and Mary Lara, nieces and nephews and his 10 grand children and 10 great grandchildren.
A native of Honolulu Hawaii. His parents migrated from Spain at the turn of the 20th century,"His family moved to Oakland in 1930 where he lived until moving to San Bruno in 1954.
He was a founding member of the Joe DiMaggio youth baseball program in California and served on the SB Park and Rec commission, President of the San Bruno Lions Club, Commander of the VFW. Also a lifelong member of the Old Timers, Marino Pieretti, San Bruno volunteer firefighters.
Thomas served his country in WWII as a Radioman III class with the US Navy. Also representing the US Navy in Baseball and in Boxing. He never lost a bout.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, July 25, 2014 at 12:00 pm at Saint Roberts Church in San Bruno. Family and friends may visit and participate in the vigil Services beginning at 7:00pm viewing at 6:00pm Further details are at www.chapelofthehighlands.com.
