Hannah G. Samuels

September 14, 1917 - July 20, 2014

Hannah Jane Goldberg Samuels of San Francisco, CA passed away peacefully on July 20, 2014 at her home after visits by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and a circle of loving friends. Born on September 14, 1917, Hannah lived her whole life in San Francisco, and was married to Albert S. Samuels, Jr. for 61 years until his death in 1998. Hannah was the manager of Rhoda Gifts on Clement Street for more than twenty years and was beloved by customers and employees alike.

Hannah is survived by her son Peter Samuels and his wife Rhoda of Palm Springs, CA and her daughter Joan Trapkin and her husband Fred, who shared her home in San Francisco in her last years; grandchildren Rachel Samuels Goldberg (Jason), Rabbi Joshua Samuels (Nicole), David Trapkin (Marie), and Bill Trapkin (Angie); great grandchildren Abby, Jack, Eytan, Shoshanna, Clarisse, Jon, Will, Lily and Joey; her nieces Barbara Lambert, Patsy Palmer (Arnie), Ann Mizel of Tiburon and nephews Gary Golden and Tom Juda (Nancy) .

Born with an innate ability to create laughter and a sense of fun wherever she went, Hannah continued to attract a devoted and ever expanding circle of friends young and old, even until her last days. It was impossible to be in her presence without smiling. Hannah is now going home to join her husband Albert for an eternity of laughter and peace, along with her parents Garrett and Hazel Goldberg and her sister Dottie, who all preceded her in death.

Hannah's family wishes to thank her doctors, their assistants, her caregivers and the dedicated nurses of San Francisco Sutter Home Health and Hospice for all they did to help Hannah live a long life and die with dignity and grace in her own home as she wished.

A service in Hannah's memory will be held on Sunday, July 27, 2014, 11:00 a.m., at Congregation Emanu-El, 2 Lake Street, San Francisco, California.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Hannah's memory can be made to charities benefitting Parkinson's and Cancer research, the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund at Congregation Beth Israel, Rabbi Joshua Samuels, 2200 Broadway, Bellingham, WA 98225, or to a charity of your choosing.
