Daniel Matthew Begovich (Hillsborough, CA and Sun Valley, ID) Our beloved Dan died unexpectedly on January 7, 2010. He will be missed by friends and family from all chapters of his life, who treasured him as a kind man of sterling character. Daniel Begovich was born on January 14, 1957, in San Francisco, California, to Dan and Emma Begovich. He graduated from Mills High School and UC Berkeley where he played varsity basketball for the Golden Bears. He was named Most Valuable Player in 1977, and was awarded the Harold Belasco Gold Award in 1979. Dan was a president of Sigma Nu fraternity while at Cal. Dan's father was a varsity football player for Cal and played in two Rose Bowls for the Golden Bears. After college, Dan entered his father's real estate business, Danco Real Estate, and later took over the business. In 1987 Dan married the love of his life and his best friend, Mariann. Their three sons brought Dan extraordinary happiness. Joseph, Daniel, Neal and Mariann will miss him dearly. A great athlete, Dan thoroughly enjoyed skiing, golf, and basketball. He was an enthusiastic coach and friend to his sons and their friends. He was always a model of great sportsmanship and passion for the game. He also had a great love for music, particularly Jimmy Buffet, Bruce Springsteen, the Beach Boys and the Rolling Stones. Dan was a den leader with the Boy Scouts of America for many years. He was a member of the Burlingame Country Club and was a faithful parishioner at St. Catherine of Siena in Burlingame for over 25 years. All who knew him will remember him for his kindness, compassion, integrity and generosity, and as a loyal and good friend. Dan was a devoted husband, father, son, son-in-law, and brother. He loved his family deeply and was always there to help any family member. He is survived by his wife, Mariann Byerwalter, his sons Joseph, Daniel and Neal, his mother, Emma, his sisters, Ann and Patrice, and his mother-in-law Mary and brother-in-law Robert. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on January 14th at 10:00 AM at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church, 1310 Bayswater Ave., Burlingame, CA. Burial will follow at St. John's Cemetery, San Mateo.
