John Caito Obituary

John Antone Caito Passed away peacefully at his home on August 14, 2010 surrounded by his loving family. John was born in San Francisco to Antone (Tony) and Antonette (Tarantino) Caito on April 29, 1927. He will be missed by his by his devoted and loving wife Mable of 59 years. Loving father to Joe, Jim (Karen), Jeanette, John (Aimee). Loving grandfather of nine grandchildren Nicole (Alex Hardaway), Gina (Fiance Jacob Fetzer), Heather, Vince (Shannon Locke), Lisa, Anthony, Caito, Matthew and Kevin Early, and a great grandson Dominic Caito. John enlisted in the US Navy in 1944. After serving in the Navy, John joined his father at Noyo River Fish Company in Fort Bragg, CA. Working closely with his father for ten years, John and his family opened Del Monte Fishing Company in Richmond, CA., which was the last commercial whaling Station in the United States. With the success of the whaling business John and his family then opened and operated Pacific Rendering Company along with the Martinelli Family. During that time, John was Secretary/Treasurer of Western California Fish Company with his father and uncles. In 1975, John and this three sons, opened Caito Fisheries, Inc. at the same location as Noyo River Fish Company. Later in life, he worked with Modesto Tallow Company. John was past President of Pacific Coast Rendcrers Association and co-founder of West Coast Seafood Processors Association. John's greatest joy was being with all his family. He loved to organize and select menus for the many social events. He also enjoyed fishing and hunting with family and friends. John was a member of that American Legion for 60 years, past President of Twin Cities Little League and Unico San Francisco. A Rosary will be held at Daphne Funeral Home, 601 Tamalpais Drive, Corte Madera on, Wed., 08/18/10 at 7:00 p.m. Mass will be held at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, 114 King Street, Larkspur CA at 10:00 a.m Thurs., 08/19/10. Interment Mount Olivet, San Rafael. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Bay, 17 East Sir Francis Drake Blvd., Larkspur, CA 94939 or donations to a charity of your choice.
